The Words of his Wife....
*My husband Bruce always considered himself a martial artist first and an actor second. At the age of 13, Bruce started lessons in the wing chun style of gung-fu for a science, an art, a philosophy and a way of life. He trained his body through exercise and practice; he trained his mind through reading and reflecting, and he recorded his thoughts and ideas constantly over the 19 years.
*In his lifelong quest for self-knowledge and personal expression, Bruce was constantly studying, analyzing and modifying all available relative information; his principle source was his personal library which consisted of over 2,000 books dealing with all forms of physical conditioning, martial arts, fighting techniques, defenses and related subjects.

Bruce Lee
With nothing but his hands, feet and a lot of attitude, he turned the little guy into a tough guy...
He spent his life turning his small body into a large weapon. Born sickly in a San Francisco hospital (his father, a Hong Kong opera singer, was on tour there), he would be burdened with two stigmas that don't become an action hero: an undescended testicle and a female name, Li Jun Fan, which his mother gave him to ward off the evil spirits out to snatch valuable male children. She even pierced one of his ears, because evil spirits always fall for the pierced-ear trick. Lee quickly became obsessed with martial arts and body building and not much else. As a child actor back in Hong Kong, Lee appeared in 20 movies and rarely in school. He was part of a small gang that was big enough to cause his mother to ship him to America before his 18th birthday so he could claim his dual-citizenship and avoid winding up in jail. Boarding at a family friend's Chinese restaurant in Seattle, Lee got a job teaching the Wing Chun style of martial arts that he had learned in Hong Kong. In 1964, at a tournament in Long Beach, Calif. — the first major American demonstration of kung fu — Lee, an unknown, ripped through black belt Dan Inosanto so quickly that Inosanto asked to be his student.

The Best of the Best_
Bruce Lee was not your average ordinary man; he was in my opinion, somewhat superhuman, like Superman. His speed, strength, agility, reaction, flexibility, and senses were definitely out of the ordinary. It’s like if he really posses some types of superpowers. Check out some of his amazing feats if you don’t believe me. But unlike Superman, he was not born with all these supernatural abilities; He had to work extremely hard for them. He trained his body every single day for at the very least 3 hours a day, yet he was still never satisfied with the results. His body was like a work of art. In fact, I believe that he was the one that invented the “washboard abs.” I remember how he would always emphasize that size is not strength and strength is not power, but instead it’s a combination of technique, timing, speed, and strength to equal true power. Not only did he obtain a one of a kind physique, his mind was super sharp as well. With all the wisdom and knowledge he obtained, he was able to read his opponents like a book, intercepting all of their attacks; which is similar to Spiderman’s spider sense. With this amazing ability he created his own philosophy, “Jeet Kune Do,” translated as “The Way of the Intercepting Fist.” His reaction and timing is clearly unmatched. He could close the gap between him and his opponents in a blink of an eye; and effortlessly flow in and out of an attack with his superb footwork. He had the reflexes, nimbleness, and flexibility of those of a cat. Let’s not forget about his famous “cat screech” noise and his “atatatah” battle cry which resembles those of a cat as well. He repetitively pushed himself to the limits in order to break it. Because you see, he created a way of life stating that “his limit” was “no limit,” as stated in his Jeet Kune Do Emblem, “Using no way as way” & “Having no limitation as limitation.” You see, to him, becoming “good” or even “great” wasn‘t enough, he wanted become the “best.” With his determination and ambition, he strove higher and higher than anyone ever before, surpassing even those of the Gods. Bruce Lee in my heart was truly “the best of the best.” |
